Winter Maintenance Program

Winter maintenance = summer electrical reliability.

The facilities we provide preventative maintenance, we find many items that need correction and fix them by the outline of the following scope of work:

Inspect and correct terminations.

a. Color of the wire.

b. Correct torque.

c. Inspected the power supplies, neutrals and grounding.

e. Insulation checks on SOW, GGC cord, grounding and motor terminations.

2. Circuit breakers and contactors.

a. Open the contactors and inspect the contacts. Recondition them and mate them to each other.

b. Look for temperature signatures.

c. Check setting on circuit breaker.

3. Overload, torque leads, check and adjust settings to nameplate information and multipliers allowed by NEC Code.

4. Refurbish.

a. Have the tools and cleaners for contacts, wire, and controls terms.

b. Install electrical grease.

c. Replace contacts that are close to failure, wire and cord as needed.

This list (not complete) should be performed by an experienced electrical personnel that has experience with torque, circuit breaker, contactor rebuild and ground. The facilities that have had this done, have experienced excellent reliability.

Speed Wheels & Whirligig

Speed Wheel

The speed wheel is a motion-tracking device for conveyor belts, designed to prevent nuisance trips caused by heavy loads or belt hopping. Unlike traditional sensors, it maintains constant contact with the belt, ensuring reliable rotation detection and avoiding unnecessary shutdowns.

To further enhance reliability, the speed wheel can be paired with a timing control cabinet featuring a time-delay relay. This allows users to fine-tune shutdown timing to match production needs, minimizing false trips and optimizing flow.

Integrated into an interlocking system, the speed wheel helps coordinate equipment in a chain reaction. If a downstream conveyor shuts down, upstream equipment automatically halts to prevent material pile-up and equipment overload—critical for safety and efficiency.

Interlocking links equipment states together, ensuring that if one part of the process stops, related components do too. For example, if a crusher’s discharge conveyor stops, the crusher itself should also shut down to avoid overflow.

Manufactured in Loveland, CO, the speed wheel is built from Grade A steel with a replaceable wheel, engineered for long-term performance.

Whirligig

This device which can be mounted magnetically and is a Universal Target / Mount Motion Sensor. Tracks the rotation and moves travel conveyors! The force of the traveling conveyor winds a mechanism inside of the Whirligig device and when it calls for travel it releases the tension held within and moves the travel conveyor to the desire position set by the operator. Very cool technology. Simple and easy to install and use.
